What started my interest in psychology, computer science, and mathematics:

Starting in the year 2017, I first became interested in psychology due to reading a book. The book was called "Change Your Brain, Change Your Life" by Dr. Amen. The fact that medicine and psychotherapy (talk therapy) could significantly change a person's life sparked my interest for wanting to study psychology.

For computer science, in 2022, I took AP computer science principles. Knowing that the course extends beyond a classroom and is utilized in everyday life made me want to participate in coding. With the use of algorithms especially, psychology can be included to aid people with a therapeutic use. Such examples are tracking and predicting emotions with potential solutions to cope with them and brain scans used to detect blood flow activity.

For mathematics, I am heavily interested in analyzing data statistically and the use of the drift-diffusion model, a mathematical model that helps calculate a reaction time and approximate accuracy on how prevalent it is for people to make the right choice based on their visual judgement. This interest first arose while I was searching through eBay to purchase books on Calculus.

Achievements/What has been done so far:

  • Athletically, I have played water polo and golf at the varsity level for my school and went districts and above

  • Have won first place in a Literary Fair prompt hosted by my school. This was held by my county and was able to send my work to compete with others outside of my school

  • Currently hosting a fundraiser to gather mental health resources for struggling veterans and their families

What I hope to accomplish/Pending:

Right now, I am looking for opportunities in hopes to be with more likeminded people who would like to incorporate psychology with computer science and mathematics. I want to expand my horizon and see the different fields of psychology.

What am I doing now/Other interests that I have:

  • Besides attempting to find other ways to get involved in psychology, I use my free time to learn Greek. For the next time I travel, I hope to be further immersed in the country's traditions and lifestyle by learning the language

  • I partake in swimming as a way to destress. I found that the sport is exceptional at improving one's mental health and I encourage everyone to try it out

  •  I also go on social media often to find opportunities to participate in organizations that align with my interests and passions

  • Last but not least, I am currently reading Richard Courant's book on "Differential and Integral Calculus". It is the second volume and partly the reason why I purchased it in the first place is because it has my favorite mathematical theorem called Green's theorem. Below explains the theorem if you'd like to learn more!

Thank you for reading!

Allison Guzman
Aspiring Psychologist

Hello! My name is Allison and I am currently a rising senior at a high school in Florida. Currently my goal is to research different ways on how can I contribute or work with others in the varied field of psychology! While I am interested in clinical psychology, I would like to incorporate the concept of psychology with computer programming and mathematics. Such examples of these is the storage of data and how it can help patients while mathematics provide statistical data on patients and be measured in psychometric value.

On this website, you will find a little bit of information about myself and what I have done so far.
